Foreign Aid and Poverty Reduction in Bangladesh:
The Problem of Good Governance
Parnini, Syeda Naushin
Description
The World Bank has made issues of corruption a major element in its governance agenda in Bangladesh and elsewhere. This work develops a critique to this new approach of development aid, which is characterized by a good governance agenda in every sector; these issues remain the most significant factors for Bangladesh as it strives towards meeting the challenges of development in the era of globalization.
Reviews
“. . . a pioneering work of critical analysis with regard to governance-related issues in Bangladesh. The author has explored the causes and problems of non-coercive intervention” by the donors in the form of foreign aid and governance agenda and has contributed to the discourse of sustainable and indigenous governance process of Bangladesh.” – Prof. Motoko Shuto, University of Tsukuba
“The author examines issues currently in play, and also traces the evolution of many of the problems and the impact of foreign aid and its governance agenda over the years and addresses policy concerns as well management of organizational factors of the donor agencies as they affect programs and policies of Bangladesh and other developing countries.” – <>Prof. Nathan Gilbert Quimpo, University of Tsukuba
“What is new in this work is the application of the body of literature developed in this area to Bangladesh. Importantly, while the ideas are not new, they need to be heard again in a different format, from a different author, and by a different audience (i.e., in Bangladesh).”
– Prof. Harald Klienschmidt, University of Tsukuba
